Andrew has lived in Michigan for all his 34 years, and
somehow the Great Lake State seeps into his music, including his
debut independent release The Dowling Road,
on sale now.
"It's the road by which you get both where you're going and
where you've been," says Andrew about the new title.
Andrew - a former history teacher - takes the listener on that very
trip, through various times and styles, from blues to folk ballads
to classic Americana, ultimately reaching a destination rooted deeply
in the familiar but alive with the unexpected.
With just his voice and acoustic guitar, Andrew shows it is possible
to break out of the "folk" box usually associated with that combo,
into something more unique and wide-ranging. "There's some tender
tunes and 'standard' playing, but I grew up on rock and roll, and
I really embrace the challenge of playing rock music within the confines
of the solo acoustic setup, so there's some attempts to rock out
on the album, too."
